Stuart-type polar vortices on a rotating sphere

چکیده
Stuart vortices are among the few known smooth explicit solutions of planar Euler equations with a nonlinear vorticity, and they can be adapted to model inviscid flow on surface fixed sphere. By means perturbative approach we show that method used investigate Stuart sphere provides insight into dynamics large-scale zonal flows rotating background polar vortices. Our takes advantage fact while is spinning around its axis, every point has same angular velocity but tangential proportional distance from axis rotation, so points move fastest at Equator slower as go towards poles, both which remain fixed.

Cyclostrophic vortices in polar regions of rotating planets
Multi-petal, rotating vortices can form in twodimensional flows consisting of an inviscid incompressible fluid under certain conditions. Such vortices are principally nonlinear thermo-hydrodynamical structures. The proper rotation of these structures which leads to time-dependent variations of the associated temperature field can be enregistred by a stationary observer. The problem is analyzed ...
متن کاملQuantum Chern–Simons vortices on a sphere
The quantisation of the reduced first-order dynamics of the nonrelativistic model for Chern– Simons vortices introduced by Manton is studied on a sphere of given radius. We perform geometric quantisation on the moduli space of static solutions, using a Kähler polarisation, to construct the quantum Hilbert space. Its dimension is related to the volume of the moduli space in the usual classical l...

GM000887-PO-Waugh. f The intense cyclonic vortices that form over the winter pole are one of the most prominent features of the stratospheric circulation. The structure and dynamics of these “polar vortices” play a dominant role in the winter and spring stratospheric circulation and are key to determining distribution of trace gases, in particular ozone, and the couplings between the stratosphe...
متن کاملPoint vortices on a sphere: Stability of relative equilibria
In this paper we analyze the dynamics of N point vortices moving on a sphere from the point of view of geometric mechanics. The formalism is developed for the general case of N vortices, and the details are worked out for the ~integrable! case of three vortices. The system under consideration is SO~3! invariant; the associated momentum map generated by this SO~3! symmetry is equivariant and cor...
متن کاملAsters, vortices, and rotating spirals in active gels of polar filaments.
We develop a general theory for active viscoelastic materials made of polar filaments. This theory is motivated by the dynamics of the cytoskeleton. The continuous consumption of a fuel generates a nonequilibrium state characterized by the generation of flows and stresses. Our theory applies to any polar system with internal energy consumption such as active chemical gels and cytoskeletal netwo...
